Optimize the mission.
Airmen, empowered.

The Artificial Intelligence Unit builds practical AI and automation capability for every Wing across the California Air National Guard โ€” turning everyday friction into solved problems.

SCROLL
Mission

Built to support five Wings and JFHQ โ€” from the ground up.

The AIU stood up as a new unit with a direct mandate: apply artificial intelligence and automation where it actually helps Airmen do their jobs. Not theory โ€” working tools, faster processes, and better decisions across the California Air National Guard.

Every deliverable starts with a real problem from the field, gets built by Airmen who understand both the mission and the technology, and gets handed back to the Wings that need it.

Reach

Five Wings. Headquarters. One Unit.

The AIU supports every geographically separated Wing across California. Hover a point to see who.

Five geographically separated Wings, one coordinated unit โ€” the LNO Wing Support Lead role keeps every one of them connected to the AIU roadmap.

Structure

Two roles, five cells, one unit.

Every AIU position is an additional duty โ€” Airmen contribute alongside their primary AFSC. Two roles connect the unit to the force; five cells do the work.

CELL / 01

Innovation Cell

Sources emerging use cases and grassroots problem statements, then pairs them with Application for prototyping.

CELL / 02

Application Cell

Owns the end-to-end technical lifecycle โ€” prototyping, development, deployment, and sustainment.

CELL / 03

Training Cell

Designs and delivers AI fluency curricula across all five geographically separated Wings.

CELL / 04

Download Newsletter

Publishes the quarterly newsletter spotlighting AIU milestones and Human-Machine Teaming in action.

CELL / 05

Future Planning Cell

Anticipates future mission requirements and aligns the AIU roadmap with Multi-Domain Operations.

Proof of Concept

The first deliverable, in progress.

Per the charter's near-term objectives, the cadre's first job is one proof-of-concept Human-Machine Teaming project. This block is scaffolded and ready for the real details once it ships.

PROBLEM

[Describe the manual process or bottleneck this project targets.]

APPROACH

[Describe the automation or AI-enabled solution the Application Cell built.]

OUTCOME

[Insert the measurable result โ€” hours saved, error rate reduced, turnaround time cut.]

Placeholder โ€” swap in the real problem, approach, and outcome once the first proof-of-concept project is complete.

We're looking for Airmen who build things.

The AIU pulls talent from across every Wing โ€” you don't need a technical background to contribute, just a habit of solving problems.

OPEN TO

Airmen from any of the five CA ANG Wings or JFHQ, any AFSC.

WHAT WE VALUE

Curiosity, initiative, and a track record of solving problems with the tools at hand.

HOW IT WORKS

Apply, interview with the cadre, and get matched to a cell based on your interests and skills.
